Level 4

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is practice-based for experienced staff over the age of 19, looking to enrich and extend their knowledge and skills in a particular area of Health and Social Care relevant to their work setting.

Learners must be in relevant employment to undertake this qualification, as it cannot be undertaken on a work placement.

Completion of the following qualifications will provide a strong foundation for Level 4 Health and Social Care with Specialism:

  • Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults)
  • Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Children and Young People)
  • Level 3 or above legacy qualification listed in the Social Care Wales – Qualifications Framework for Social Care and Regulated Childcare in Wales

Qualification structure and assessment

The structure of this qualification is in the process of being finalised.

The qualification will be assessed through a combination of external assessment (via a holistic project followed by a professional discussion) and internal assessment (via a portfolio of evidence including direct observation of practice supported by reflective tasks).

What could the qualification lead to?

The qualification recognises enriched and extended skills for progression on to:

  • further study in the chosen specialist area
  • Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care
